And although this isn’t good news for first-time buyers, it gives homeowners looking to sell in 2020 some hope. Preparing your property for sale during the festive season is a great way to ensure a quick sale - so list it before Boxing Day if you can. But in a busy market, how do you set yourself apart?
We can help. This month, we’re giving you the 5 steps you need to prepare for the property market in 2020.
Have a good clear-out
Take the time to declutter and, importantly, de-personalise. Essentially, buyers want to see themselves in your home - so put away any personal items that could shatter the illusion.
Try a fresh coat of paint
Unfortunately, this isn’t a small job - we know. But painting the walls in a nice neutral colour will, again, help a potential buyer visualise themselves living there. It will also make the place feel brighter - and cleaner. Which leads us to our next point...
Hire a professional cleaner
Although you can do this yourself, it’s a good idea to hire a professional to help. Imagine you’re renting the property and looking to get your deposit back. Shower doors, ovens and all those nooks and crannies - you want you’re property looking at its absolute best.
Give your garden a groom
This can often get neglected - especially in the winter. So remember to mow the lawns - front and back - and pull out those pesky weeds. Give the shed a quick varnish if it’s looking a bit tired and jet-wash the decking or patio. Even small touches like hiding away the bins can make a big difference. Speaking of which...
Don’t forget the little things
Open the windows to freshen the place up and add some flowers around the house. If you’ve got a parking space, then leave it free for your prospective buyers. It’s obviously more convenient but also gives them a flavour of what it’s like to pull up in their new home. Finally, walk through the house like a potential buyer - does anything look out of place?
Trying to sell your property can be a stressful experience. Don’t worry, we’ve got the experience to make it a lot less painful. Need a little more advice before the viewing? Give us a call.
