6th June 2016
We British have a fantastic propensity for the dramatic. As soon as the sun goes away for a few days during the much awaited summer time, we believe she will never grace us again.
Don’t lose hope, Brighton and Hove. The sun isn’t the only reason to go outside this June. Check out our definitive list of alfresco activities taking place in the city this summer:
Now in it’s 89th year, the London to Brighton Veteran Car Run celebrates the Locomotives on Highways Act 1896. The Act removed the strict rules and UK speed limits, which previously meant ‘light locomotives’ were unable to travel at speeds above 4mph. After the law was passed, they could travel on the highway at speeds up to 14mph and no longer needed to be preceeded by a man on foot.
Head down to Brighton’s Madeira Drive to admire an eclectic mix of classic cars. The event is open to all and is a great place to take the kids. Or grandparents for that matter.
Kicking off with the opening ceremony preceding the France v Romania football match, Brighton’s Big Screen gives new meaning to outdoor entertainment.
There is a whole host of films across a variety of genres playing throughout June, with tickets available at very reasonable prices. Enjoy your favourite flick on a 40sqm screen, munch on Brighton and Hove favourites – Pizzaface and Bagel Man and listen to the gentle splash of the waves against the pebbles.
The course starts and ends at Brighton Racecourse. Click here for more information and to register.
TakePart is an award winning festival, which celebrates sport, dance and an active lifestyle in Brighton and Hove. There is a range of activities to take part in, regardless of age or physical ability.
This is a great opportunity for families to have quality time and get fit in the process, or for young people to have clean, healthy fun with their friends.
Starting at the iconic London Eye on the South Bank of London and following either a 60, 80 or 100 mile route to Brighton, the Capital to Coast Bike Ride invites you to join 1500 cyclists for an epic adventure that raises money and awareness of two worthy causes.
Now in its 21st year, the bike ride raises money for the Norwood Charity and Down Syndrome Association. It finishes at the Hove Lawns and offers an atmospheric day out for the keen cyclist and the casual spectator combined.
Don’t let the weather govern your outdoor fun this summer. Get outside in Brighton and Hove and fill your lungs with fresh sea air. Just beware, come rain or shine, those crafty seagulls are always there.
