My Dream Job - How I Became an Estate Agent
There are many different ways to choose a career path. Some people know their dream job from a very young age, many discover a calling at some point in their schooling and others can go as far as completing further education without a clear idea of a career.
Sometimes serendipity means things just fall into place and that's exactly what happened for Erin Healey who works for Maslen Estate Agents out of our Woodingdean office.
Erin's grandfather sold his flat with us and he was so impressed with the service he asked if his granddaughter could do some work experience with the company.
"I loved every minute of it," Erin explains, "because I always had an interest in property and the process of selling and buying."
Erin's enthusiasm and 'can do' attitude was exactly what we look for in our staff. After her work experience period ended, she continued to work with us on Saturdays and during school holidays. Her contribution was so impressive that when she finished her education we immediately offered her a permanent position.
Three years later, Erin is an established member of the Maslen team and now has a wealth of experience dealing with both buyers and sellers on a daily basis.
"It really was a great way to find my dream job," she says. "I liked the thought of working for an independent agent instead of a corporate one and I know Woodingdean so well that it was the perfect choice!"
Coming from Woodingdean Erin knows why so many people want to move to the area: "I love how everyone is so friendly and knows everyone. Having grown up here helps me massively as I can explain all of the different amenities in Woodingdean to potential buyers, which people find really helpful."
Now Erin is firmly established in her job she has seen see the positive effects that comes from her own work. "We constantly have buyers coming into the office after they have moved into their new home to say how lovely their new neighbours are."
At Maslen we have a diverse team spanning different age groups, experience and talent, which is why there is a difference to the way we do things. Having a new generation of negotiators brings fresh insights into the business, as Erin shows every day.
"I think it's good to have a mix of all people as everyone brings different ideas to the table," she says. "Having a new generation of negotiators will always bring a new view on certain things."
With a huge love for the local area, a natural gift for connecting with people and a track record of already consistently providing exceptional levels of service, we're delighted that Erin is now an accomplished member of our team.
"There are so many things I've learned! Getting to know buyers and sellers meant learning that every sale has a different story. We really enjoy finding out why people want to move, how to help them really understand what they are looking for in a property and trying to help as much as we can."
An ardent fan of the TV show Property Brothers and their dedication to introducing people to homes within budget, Erin's ambition revolves around "finding buyers their dream homes."
So, all that's left for us to say is a very big thank you to her granddad for his recommendation!
